Biography: Starting his music career in the 1970s as a songwriter and the co-lead singer of the R&B band the Commodores ("Easy"; "Three Times a Lady"), he made his solo debut in 1982 with the album "Lionel Richie" and number-one hit "Truly". He co-wrote, with Michael Jackson, the all-star charity single "We Are The World" in 1985. Richie has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time.

More recently he has been a judge on TV reality show "American Idol" since 2018.

Richie has won 4 Grammy Awards and one Oscar. In 2022 he was awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
