The Hobbit Trilogy Returns to Theaters With Extended Editions

“The Hobbit Trilogy” is returning to select theaters for a three-night event in which the extended additions of the films will be presented.
Fathom Events, New Line Cinema, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures are coming together to present the event. “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will play Oct. 5; “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” will follow Oct. 7; and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” will finish it up Oct. 13. The showings, in 500 theaters in the U.S., will start at 7:30 p.m. local time.
“We are excited to give fans the first chance to see the extended editions of this trilogy in cinemas,” said Fathom Events CEO John Rubey. “The incredible cinematography and action in each feature will be even better on the bigscreen and will give ‘Hobbit’ fans a chance to binge-watch as a community.” Fathom is a consortium comprising the AMC, Regal and Cinemark chains.
The event will mark the first time that the extended editions have been shown in theaters and the first time ever that the “Battle of the Five Armies” extended edition will be seen. In addition, there will be a special on-screen introduction from Peter Jackson, the trilogy’s director, co-screenwriter and producer.
